Yvan Grant misses second straight century by two runs in BCA T20 Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados, April 22 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Yvan Grant agonisingly missed a second straight century by two runs as ESA Field Pickwick defeated SigniaGlobe Financial Inc. BCA Youth ‘A’ by six wickets with five balls remaining in Series 3 of the BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup Championship today.

Playing on home turf at Foursquare Oval, opener Grant was bowled, playing on, by pacer Dre Springer for 98 with six runs needed off nine balls in pursuit of a victory target of 152 in Zone ‘B’.

The 25-year-old Grant, son of former Pickwick and Barbados batsman Adrian Grant, faced 64 balls and struck 13 fours and three sixes.

A former Queen’s College student and Barbados Under-19 team player, Grant made 109 not out against Wanderers in an eight-wicket win at Dayrells Road last Sunday.

BCA Youth ‘A’, who won the toss, scored 151 for six following an opening partnership of 88 in 10.3 overs between Rashad Worrell and Shomari Gittens.

Gittens hit the top score of 42 off 33 balls with four fours and one six and Worrell made 40 off 41 balls including one four and three sixes.

It was the third win for Pickwick.

Fusionz Boutique Spartan wicketkeeper/batsman Tauron Gibson was also dismissed in the 90s today.

Gibson made 91 off 56 balls with six fours and five sixes at the top of the order in a total of 196 for three off 20 overs – the highest of the series – against IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire who lost by 48 runs at Queen’s Park in Zone ‘A’.

Gibson was caught at point off Vataly Wilkinson with three balls left in the innings.

He put on 113 in 12.2 overs for the second wicket with Marrodon Bend, who scored 53 off 43 balls with four fours and two sixes.

Yorkshire were limited to 148 for nine with all-rounder Indal Persaud scoring an unbeaten 52 off 43 balls including two fours and three sixes.

Leg-spinner Joshua Drakes took three for 22, left-arm spinner Andre Marshall, three for 26 and pacer Stefon King, two for 26 – all off four overs.
