Fluctuating batting fortunes for Barbados against Windwards, CWI Boys’ Under-17, Series 1, Day 1

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, August 23 – (www.barbadoscricket.org – It was a day of fluctuating fortunes with the bat for Barbados against Windward Islands as the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Boys’ Under-17 two-day Championship opened today.

Playing at Gilbert Park, Barbados, the new 50-over champions in a badly rain-ruined tournament, were bowled out for 213 in 76.4 overs after losing the toss.

Three batsmen got into the 30s, there were two half-century partnerships, the last wicket pair put on 47 and two of the first three wickets were run outs.

After Edwin Currency-Barnett fell to new ball bowler Devonte McDowall for 12 with the score 16, Gadson Bowens and Jaden Webster added 57 in just over an hour before Webster was run out for 19 in the 22^nd over.

And two overs later, Bowens was also run out for 31 off 73 balls.

At lunch the score was 87 for three off 31 overs.

Joshua Branch and wicketkeeper Reviera Cottle led a recovery by putting on 56 in 22.1 overs for the fourth wicket before four wickets crashed for two runs off 23 balls.

Dismissed during the collapse were Branch (19), Cottle, who top-scored with 35 off 67 balls in 81 minutes including four boundaries, Kyron King (0) and Zishan Motara (0).

Akeem McCollin (19) and Xaundre Baptiste (9) then added 30 for the eighth wicket before falling in consecutive overs.

Jatario Prescod (16 not out) and Dre Springer (30) featured in a last wicket stand of 47.

Khan Elcock took three for 23 off nine overs and Kirt Murray, three for 36 off 21.4 overs.

Windward Islands closed on 27 without loss off 11 overs.
