Wildey dominate against Gladiola in Elite division, Round 7, Day 1

Bridgetown, Barbados, November 12 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Wildey were in a commanding position against BWU Gladiola in their top-of-the-table clash on the opening day of Series 7 in the BCA Elite division three-day Championship today.

Sent in on home turf at Rices, front-runners Gladiola were dismissed for 84 in 26.4 overs.

Ashley Nurse top-scored with 25 at No. 6.

Deswin Currency was the main wrecker with a career-best six for 23 off 8.4 overs, while fellow left-arm spinner Steve Pinder took two for 33.

Then propelled by a first wicket partnership of 116 in 21 overs between captain Craig St. Hill and Shanaldo Taylor, second-placed Wildey replied strongly with 181 for three off 40 overs at the close.

Left-hander Taylor scored 76 off 71 balls including five threes and 10 fours, and St. Hill made 66 off 93 deliveries with four threes and two fours.

St. Hill and Demetrius Richards (26) put on 54 for the second wicket.

At Bayfield: Sagicor Life UWI reached 146 for six off 50 overs after losing the toss against St. Catherine.

Following a late start by one-and-a-half hours because of wet areas on the outfield, Shaqkere Parris and Demel Evelyn added 73 for the second wicket before five wickets fell for 34 runs.

Fast bowler Dario Cumberbatch, in his first over of a third spell, broke the partnership by having Parris caught at the wicket by Ulric Batson for 51 – his first half-century of the season. He faced 106 balls in 124 minutes and struck one four and one six.

Cumberbatch also accounted for left-hander Jamar Ifill, leg before wicket without scoring three balls later, and captain Kyle Corbin, caught at cover for 16 to make it 118 for four.

Evelyn scored 37 before he was sixth out.

Cumberbatch has three for 36 off 13 overs and left-arm spinner Damien Browne, two for 38 off 14 overs.

At Beckles Road: Bayview Hospital YMPC off-spinner Kemar Jabarry Smith snatched five for 56 off 15 overs – his fourth five-wicket haul of the season – as SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth were dismissed for 127 in 46.4 overs after they were sent in.

Left-arm pacer Gary Austin took four for 16 off 10.4 overs.

Preston Clarke top-scored with 33. Achilles Browne made 24.

The home team limped to 28 for four off 15 overs at stumps as pacer Rashad Worrell took two for 12.

At Desmond Haynes Oval: With wet conditions delaying the start of play until after tea, Fusionz Boutique Spartan reached 87 for three off 16 overs after losing the toss against Carlton.

Marrodon Bend was 44 not out off 39 balls including five fours and three sixes. Nicholas Carter made 27.

At Bank Hall: Not a ball was bowled between Empire and Wanderers because of wet conditions.
