Wanderers remain unbeaten as Holder hits half-century in BCA Super Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados, July 10 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Jason Holder, the Barbados Pride and West Indies all-rounder, hit an unbeaten half-century as Wanderers crushed Carlton by seven wickets to remain the only team with maximum points after Series 5 in the BCA Elite/Division 1 Super Cup Championship.

Chasing 149 to win in the Zone ‘B’ match at Desmond Haynes Oval, Wanderers triumphed in 23.3 overs with Holder, in a rare club appearance, scoring 64 not out off 60 balls including six fours and two sixes at No. 3.

Carlton, missing a few key players for various reasons, fell for 148 in 33.2 overs after an opening partnership of 63 in 16.3 overs between Rashawn Worrell (36) and Kirk Gibson (20).

Coach Khismar Catlin (26 not out) and Justin Branker (19) added 46 for the last wicket.

Ian Boyce took four for 35 and Kirk Edwards, three for 31.

In the same Zone, skipper Akeem Nero slammed a century for IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire who defeated Lords by 122 runs (D/L/S method) at Friendship.

Batting at No. 4, Nero made 102 off only 66 balls with 11 fours and four sixes in a total of 358 for eight off 50 overs.

Opener Lamar Worrell scored 76 off 79 deliveries including nine fours and three sixes.

Chasing a revised target of 343 in 46 overs, Lords were restricted to 220 for eight.

Three bowlers stood out with five-wicket hauls – Jerome Jones (Wildey), Davien Branker (Fusionz Boutique Spartan) and Akobi Crichlow-Byer (Foundation).

Left-arm pacer Jones took five for 24 against ESA Field Pickwick, who were bowled out for 205 in 47 overs at SJPIT.

Wildey, led by Craig St. Hill’s unbeaten 84 off 104 balls including eight fours, won by eight wickets.

Barbados Pride fast bowler Akeem Jordan had a fine all-round performance for Wildey. He took four for 26 and made 44 not out.

Branker, a left-arm pacer, grabbed five for 33 as Bayview Hospital YMPC were dismissed for 118 off 32.5 overs at Queen’s Park.

Nicholas Carter then hit 57 off the same number of balls including ten fours and one six in leading Spartan to an easy eight-wicket victory in 19 overs.

Fourteen-year-old off-spinner Crichlow-Byer took five for 56 against St. Catherine who won by five wickets at Church Hill.

After Foundation fell for 151 in 32.3 overs, St. Catherine won in 20 overs, led by 64 off 38 balls with seven fours and three sixes from captain Mikhail Austin.

It was the second time this season that Crichlow-Byer boasted of a five-for. In the second round, he took five for 37 against SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth ‘A’ at the Harrison College ground, Crumpton Street.

At the same venue, Barbados Youth ‘A’ upset Empire by 24 runs (D/L/S method).

Barbados Youth ‘A’ scored 215 for seven off 48 overs with Jayden Roberts hitting the top score of 56 not out off 68 balls including six fours at No. 6.

Set a revised target of 228 in 48 overs, Empire fell for 203 in 45.3 overs. Kofie Hurdle made 62 and Andre Roach 53.

There were four half-centuries in the match between Sagicor Life UWI ‘A’ and SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth ‘B’, who lost by 39 runs (D/L/S method) at Waterford.

Odain McCatty scored 65 and Romario Greaves 58 not out for UWI ‘A’, while Nathan Sealy hit 77 and Zion Brathwaite 53 for Youth ‘B’.

Others scoring half-centuries were: Khalil Herbert (IDL Walkers Sand Quarry Isolation Cavaliers) 83 not out v Maple at KMV Oval; Mario Albert (Police) 68 not out v Nicholls Baking Combermere at Weymouth and Richard Sampson (BWU Gladiola) 50 v Sagicor Life UWI ‘B’ at 3Ws Oval.

Isolation Cavaliers and Police were victorious but Gladiola were beaten.
