Toppin blasts record century, ton also for Grant in Series 2 of BCA T20 Cup
Bridgetown, Barbados, April 16 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Jafari Toppin of newcomers Windward became the first ever batsman to score 150 in the BCA Twenty20 Cup Championship today.
And there was also a century for ESA Field Pickwick’s Yvan Grant in Series 2.
Opener Toppin, the Windward Club coach, made 152 off 54 balls with nine fours and 15 sixes in an eight-wicket win against IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire at Friendship in Zone ‘A’.
Chasing 199, Windward triumphed with 23 balls remaining.
Toppin reached his century off 38 balls with seven fours and eight sixes. His fifty took 22 balls and included three fours and four sixes.
Yorkshire scored 198 for seven after they were sent in. Captain Armani Best hit an unbeaten 94 off 49 balls with five fours and eight sixes at No. 5.
The previous highest score in the Tournament, which started in 2008, was 132 not out by Wanderers all-rounder Roshon Primus, co-incidentally also against Yorkshire at the same venue last year.
Grant, the son of former Pickwick and Barbados batsman Adrian Grant, slammed an unbeaten 109 off 53 balls with eight fours and nine sixes at the top, as Pickwick were also victorious by eight wickets against Wanderers at Dayrells Road in Zone ‘B’.
Requiring 176, Pickwick won with four overs to spare.
