Cadogan, Thorne star as St. Leonard’s, Foundation to clash in Sir Everton Weekes Under-13 Final

Bridgetown, Barbados, May 30 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – St. Leonard’s will clash with Foundation in the Final of the 2023 BCA Sir Everton Weekes Under-13 limited overs Championship at Briar Hall, Christ Church on Thursday, June 1.

In today’s semi-finals, St. Leonard’s beat Nicholls Baking Combermere by 99 runs at Lears, while Foundation defeated iCool St. Michael by six wickets at SJPIT.

Demetri Cadogan was the batting star for St. Leonard’s. He hit the top-score of 50 off 53 balls with four fours and one six at No. 4 in a total of 194 for five off 28 overs after the Richmond Gap School won the toss.

The total was beefed up by 52 extras including 42 wides as Combermere used eight bowlers.

Cadogan featured in partnerships of 72 off 8.4 overs for the third wicket with Yuvraj Persaud, who made 33 off 34 balls including four boundaries, and 61 off seven overs for the fourth wicket with Tyrico King, who scored 24 off 25 balls including four fours for the fourth wicket.

Captain Kelani Clarke, with 25 off 26 balls including four boundaries had set the stage by adding 52 in 8.1 overs with Kieran Gittens (10) for the first wicket.

Combermere, batting without gifted Barbados Under-15 leg-spinning all-rounder Justin Parris, who was injured in the field after bowling only two overs in picking up one wicket for four runs, tumbled for 95 in 21.2 overs.

Only two batsmen got into double-figures – Rynarei Boyce with 30 off 48 balls including three boundaries at No. 4 and captain and opener Jahidi Hinds, a Barbados Under-15 player  (14).

There were 35 extras of which 28 were wides.

Gittens took three for 16 off 5.2 overs, Cadogan, two for six off three overs, King, two for 20 off five overs and Clarke, two for 22 off four overs.

Foundation were spurred to victory by a fine all-round performance from captain Shai Thorne.

Thorne snatched three for 24 off seven overs after coming on as the sixth of seven bowlers in a total of 141 for nine off 35 overs after St. Michael won the toss. There were 37 extras including 24 wides.

All three of Thorne’s victims were bowled and he also effected a run out.

Opener Amari Wickham top-scored with 48 off 86 balls including three fours.

Apart from Thorne, Tyraj Bassawon took two for 21 and Damitri Walcott, two for 27 – both off seven overs.

Thorpe then scored 61 not out off 91 balls including eight boundaries at No. 3 as the Church Hill boys triumphed with 14 balls to spare.

There were 28 extras, boosted by 22 wides.
