Bridgetown, Barbados, June 1 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Propelled by another outstanding all-round performance from captain Kelani Clarke, St. Leonard’s Boys’ brushed aside Foundation by ten wickets to capture the 2023 BCA Sir Everton Weekes Under-13 limited overs Championship at Maurice King Sports Complex, Briar Hall today.

Player-Of-The-Match Clarke slammed 71 not out off 72 balls including seven fours and one six as the Richmond Gap team, coached by veteran Barbados Pride player, Jonathan Carter, easily reached a revised target of 118 in 26 overs with three overs to spare following a stoppage for rain with the score 78 off 14.5 overs.

Clarke’s partner Kieran Gittens made an unbeaten 26 of 71 deliveries.

Earlier, the versatile Clarke, who also kept wicket, took two for 32 off seven overs after opening the bowling to help restrict Foundation to 143 for six off 28 overs after they were sent in.

Skipper Shai Thorne, another outstanding player in the depleted competition, hit the top-score of 32 off 30 balls with five boundaries at No. 3.

Thorne featured in a second wicket partnership of 47 off 8.5 overs with Oshae Francis, who laboured 41 balls for five.

Heavy-set Tyraj Bassawan, with 30 off 28 balls including five fours and No. 4 Zyerie Kellman, who made 23 off 42 balls with three boundaries, put on 40 in 6.4 overs for the fifth wicket.

Apart from Clarke, another all-rounder, Demetri Cadogan, took two for 36 off seven overs.

The Foundation total was beefed up by 38 extras including 34 wides.

Clarke also made headlines earlier in the tournament when he slammed a monumental 246 not out off 80 balls with 44 fours and seven sixes in a total of 436 for two off 23 overs against hapless St. George, who crumbled for only four in four overs at Richmond Gap.

Among the spectators at the Final were experienced Barbados Pride and West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder, former Barbados and West Indies players Sulieman Benn and Ryan Hinds, who is a St. Leonard’s alumnus and veteran BCA coach Dexter Toppin.

Hinds and Benn are also BCA coaches.
