Springer slams century to put Spartan in quarterfinals of BCA Super Cup
Bridgetown, Barbados, August 14 -(www.barbadoscricket.org) – Akeem Springer, the Fusionz Boutique Spartan captain, slammed a brilliant, unbeaten century which set the stage for a 57-run win over Wildey and a place in the quarterfinals of the BCA Elite/Division 1 Super Cup Championship.
In a ninth and last round Zone ‘A’ match reduced to a 32-over because of wet conditions at the SJPIT ground today, opener Springer hit 117 not out off 100 balls including 12 fours and six sixes in total of 193 for four after Spartan were sent in.
Springer reached his century off 87 balls with ten fours and six sixes. He featured in a fourth wicket partnership of 106 in 11.1 overs with Joshua Drakes (26).
Wildey, who won the last Championship in 2019, were bowled out for 136 in 29.5 overs.
Pacer Renico Alleyne was the leading wicket-taker with four for 38 off seven overs. Left-arm spinner Andre Marshall took three for 29 and leg-spinner Drakes, two for 31.
There was an excellent bowling performance by fast bowler Jaden Lorde, who grabbed eight for 32 off 8.4 overs to spur SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth ‘B’ to a 28-run win over Nicholls Baking Combermere at Waterford ‘A’ in Zone ‘B’.
Two other bowlers also stood out.
Rasheed Padmore of Police took six for 33 against Carlton, who lost by nine wickets at Desmond Haynes Oval, and Tahj Tavernier picked up five for 19 for Sagicor Life UWI ‘B’ as they beat SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth ‘A’ by six wickets at 3Ws Oval.
There was no play in four matches because of wet conditions.
