Spartan beat Barbados Youth on rain-hit last day of Elite division Series 4

Bridgetown, Barbados, October 9 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Defending champions Fusionz Boutique Spartan brushed aside rock-bottom SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth by eight wickets at Kensington Oval on the third and final day of a rain-hit Series 4 in the BCA Elite division Championship today.

The win lifted Spartan from fifth to third position in the Table on 48 points.

Bayview Hospital YMPC, who beat second-placed BWU Gladiola by four wickets at Rices inside two days, jumped from seventh to fourth place on 43 points.

Wildey remained at the top of the table on 52 points – three ahead of Gladiola – despite a no-result against struggling Carlton at SJPIT.

At Kensington Oval: From an overnight 99 for eight, Barbados Youth were bowled out for 122 in their second innings, setting Spartan 79 to win.

Devon Stevenson top scored with 39 not out after resuming on 20.

Fast bowler Michael Sobers picked up one more wicket to finish with five for 43 off 14 overs.

Left-arm spinner Andre Marshall took two for 19.

Spartan raced to victory in 11.2 overs with Marrodon Bend unbeaten on 42 and Joshua Drakes 16 not out.

Barbados Youth have lost all of their matches.

At Bank Hall: In what turned out to be a bizarre declaration, Empire conceded first innings points to St. Catherine.

Rain had prevented play on the second day and after resuming on 20 for two off four overs, Empire declared at 84 for seven off 27.4 overs in reply to 194 all out.

Soon there was rain and play was abandoned at 3 p.m.

Off-spinner Javere Callender took four for 24 off 6.4 overs and pacer Dario Cumberbatch, two for 18 off eight overs.

At 3Ws Oval: Opener Shayne Moseley and Ian Boyce hit half-centuries for Wanderers before rain also had the final say.

Resuming on 59 for two off 14.4 overs in their second innings, Wanderers finished on 141 for three off 43 overs.

Left-hander Moseley, who started the day on 28, scored an unbeaten 71 off 131 balls in 189 minutes with two fours.

All-rounder Boyce made 54 from his overnight 26. He faced 98 balls and struck five boundaries in two-and-a-half hours.

Moseley and Boyce added 119 in 33.5 overs.

Pacer Matthew Forde took two for 31 off 11 overs.

At SJPIT: From a first day score of 160 for seven off 43.3 overs, Carlton were dismissed for 196 in 56.5 overs.

Off-spinner Shane Jones picked up two more wickets to finish with three for 31.
