SHIAN BRATHWAITE                      RASHAWN WORRELL                    JAVED LEACOCK

Bridgetown, Barbados, November 28 – Rival openers Shian Brathwaite and Rashawn Worrell slammed centuries and leg-spinner Javed Leacock snatched six wickets – all in the same match – in Series 1 of the 2021 BCA Legends Cup three-day Championship, which features four teams.

There were wins for Sir Garfield Sobers X1 against Sir Wesley Hall X1 by 46 runs at Desmond Haynes Oval and Sir Charles Griffith X1 over Sir Gordon Greenidge X1 by 10 wickets at Weymouth.

Brathwaite, a pugnacious 22-year-old, scored 153 for Sir Charles Griffith X1.

Worrell, 19, a talented left-hander and former Barbados Under-15 team captain, who also had a stint at St. Bede’s School in England, made exactly 100 in the second innings for Gordon Greenidge X1, who were undermined by the 24-year-old Leacock with six for 80 off 26.2 overs.

AT WEYMOUTH:  After dismissing the Greenidge X1 for a paltry 92 off 41 overs in the first innings, the Griffith X1 responded with 312 for five declared off 81.3 overs.

The foundation was laid by a splendid first wicket partnership of 225 in 62 overs between Kyle Hope and Brathwaite.

Benefitting from two chances – at two and 59 – the 33-year-old Hope, who has played five Test and seven One-Day International matches for West Indies, scored 82.

Hope batted for five hours, faced 177 balls and hit four fours and one six before he was caught by wicket-keeper Shamar Forde off pacer Teriq Worrell.

Brathwaite was second out with the score 274, leg before wicket by left-arm spinner Damario Goodman. He was at the crease for 348 minutes, received 232 balls and struck 13 fours and five sixes. His century came in 250 minutes off 170 balls and included eight fours and two sixes.

Kadeem Alleyne contributed 40 not out off 50 balls as he hammered four sixes and one four at No. 3.

Goodman took two for 69 off 19 overs and off-spinner Romario Greaves, two for 110 off 24.3 overs.

Greenidge X1 made 249 in the second innings with Rashawn Worrell occupying the crease for just over five hours. He faced 221 balls and counted nine fours before he was before he was sixth out shortly after tea, bowled by Leacock with the score 198.

Worrell’s hundred came in 293 minutes off 218 balls.

Apart from Leacock, captain and off-spinner Ashley Nurse picked up three for 47 off 22 overs.

The Griffith X1 raced to their victory target of 30 in just 16 balls as the match was over at 4:27 p.m.

AT DESMOND HAYNES OVAL: Former Barbados and West Indies Under-19 batter Antonio Morris scored an unbeaten 52 for the Hall X1 as wickets fell around him.

Set 174 to win in 79 overs, the Hall X1 were dismissed for 127 in 34.5 overs with the match finishing 81 minutes after lunch.

The 19-year-old Morris batted for 105 minutes, faced 82 balls and hit five fours and one six.

Left-arm spinner Deswin Currency took four for 25, off-spinner Kemar Smith, three for 26 and medium-pacer Shamar Springer, two for 20.
