Seven centuries in Series 7 of Super Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados, July 23 – ( – Seven centuries were scored and three batters got into the 90s in Series 7 of the BCA Elite/Division 1 Super Cup Championship.

On a hot, sunny day, veteran left-hander Jonathan Carter was in the forefront with a knock of 150 off 102 balls including 12 fours and nine sixes for Sagicor Life UWI, as his teammate Matthew Forde blasted 134 off only 65 deliveries with ten fours and nine sixes in a massive total of 446 all out off 47.4 overs against Lords who were demolished by 375 runs at 3Ws Oval in Zone ‘B’.

Zone leaders Wanderers also had two century-makers in Jonathan Drakes (140) and Shayne Moseley (132 not out) against SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth ‘B’, who lost by 221 runs at Crumpton Street.

The other century-makers were Jai-Bari Yarde of Empire, Carlton’s Rashawn Worrell and Indal Persaud of IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire.

Yarde made 105 to spur Zone ‘A’ front-runners Empire to a four-wicket win against ESA Field Pickwick at Bank Hall; Worrell scored 101 off Nicholls Baking Combermere, who were beaten by six wickets at Desmond Haynes Oval and Persaud hit 114 as Yorkshire defeated Maple by 86 runs at Friendship.

Significantly, four of them – Forde, Moseley, Worrell and Yarde – are celebrating their second tons of the Tournament this season.

All told, 18 centuries have been scored.

Reaching the 90s were David Carter (99) for Sagicor Life UWI ‘B’ in a seven-wicket win against Foundation after the school team’s 15-year-old Kevion Newton scored 98 not out at Church Hill, and Pedro Greaves (94) for Combermere.

Three bowlers grabbed five-wicket hauls. They were: Jamar Layne (Yorkshire) 5-21; Rico Webb (Spartan) 5-40 against St. Catherine, who triumphed by 10 runs at Bayfield and Shaquille Cumberbatch (Empire) 5-61.
