Rain wipes out play in six BCA T20 Cup matches but Gladiola, UWI ‘A’ still on maximum points
Bridgetown, Barbados, April 23 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – BWU Gladiola and defending champions Sagicor Life UWI ‘A’ are the only teams with maximum 16 points following a badly rain-hit Series 4 in the BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup Championship today.
Only four of the 10 matches were played with the number of overs reduced.
Those four matches were all in Zone ‘A’.
Gladiola beat Empire by one run at Rices, UWI defeated Foundation by eight wickets at 3Ws Oval, Fusionz Boutique Spartan triumphed over Windward by seven wickets at Queen’s Park and SigniaGlobe Financial Inc. BCA Youth ‘B’ overcame St. Catherine by 34 runs at the Lester Vaughan ground, Cane Garden.
It was the first win for Youth ‘B’.
At Rices: Gladiola kept their nerves to pull off a thrilling win.
Chasing 84 in 11 overs, Empire scored 82 for eight.
Opener Kevin Stoute made 44 off 25 balls.
Medium-pacer Korie Miller took three for 14 off two overs. He bowled the last over when seven runs were needed with five wickets in hand.
Gladiola made 83 for eight after they were sent in.
Fast bowlers Jarion Hoyte and Jaden Edmund each took two for 12 and left-arm spinner Camarie Boyce, two for 15.
At Queen’s Park: In an eight-over match, Spartan won by seven wickets with two balls to spare.
Set 87 to win, Spartan were put on course by captain and opener Akeem Springer who made 31 off 17 balls with three fours and two sixes before he was third out with the score 51 after 4.2 overs.
Rico Webb was unbeaten on 17 and Akil Greenidge scored 16 not out – both off 12 balls
Sent in, Windward made 85 for five.
Jafari Toppin scored 30 off 12 balls including four sixes.
Pacer Webb took two for eight off one over.
At Lester Vaughan, Cane Garden: Zachary Carter produced a fine all-round performance to spur BCA Youth ‘B’ to a 34-run win.
Carter made 41 off 21 balls with four fours and three sixes at No. 3 in a total of 132 for four off 13 overs after Youth ‘B’ were sent in.
He then returned to grab three for 26 in three overs as St. Catherine were bowled out for 98 in 12.5 overs.
Damani Roach picked up two for eight and Khomani Griffith, two for 22.
At 3Ws Oval: In an 11-over match, UWI ‘A’ defeated Foundation by eight wickets with nine balls remaining.
Set 95 for victory, Shaqkere Parris made an unbeaten 47 off 27 balls with four fours and three sixes and opener Demario Richards scored 41 off 25 deliveries including four fours and one six.
Foundation scored 94 for seven after winning the toss.
Shomari Davis hit the top score of 20.
Leg-spinner Javed Leacock took two for 10.
