Primus, Welcome-Goodman hit centuries in Elite division – Series 5, Day 1

Bridgetown, Barbados, October 15 – ( – Two centuries were scored on the opening day of Series 5 in the BCA Elite division three-day Championship today.

Roshon Primus slammed 163 for Wanderers against front-runners Wildey at Dayrells Road and Carlton’s Marlon Welcome-Goodman made 113 off SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth at Kensington Oval.

At Dayrells Road: Batting at No. 4 in his first Elite division match of the season, Primus dominated in breath-taking style as Wanderers, who won the toss, amassed the day’s highest total of 302 all out off 60.1 overs.

It was the fifth century at this level for the burly all-rounder, who struck 19 fours and six sixes.

Primus faced 148 balls and was at the crease for 246 minutes before he was last out off spinner Deswin Currency, who was the leading wicket-taker with four for 91 off 17.1 overs.

At Kensington Oval: Left-hander Welcome-Goodman made 113 off 143 balls in 202 minutes with 16 fours at No. 5, as Carlton were bowled out for 274 in 57.3 overs after winning the toss.

Leniko Boucher scored 44, featuring in a fourth wicket partnership 104 with Welcome-Goodman.

Pacer Jaden Lorde took four for 74 off 15 overs.

Barbados Youth closed on 15 for one.

At Rices: Solid performances by Michael Agard Jr. and Ashley Nurse gave BWU Gladiola first innings lead over St. Catherine.

Agard grabbed five for 41 off nine overs and fellow off-spinner Ashley Nurse picked up two for six off 3.4 overs as St. Catherine were dismissed for 113 after losing the toss.

Gladiola were struggling on 14 for four before Ashley Nurse and Giovonte Depeiza (32) put on 67 for the fifth and then Ashley Nurse and Martin Nurse (23) added 52 for the sixth wicket) before closing on 150 for six, with Ashley Nurse unbeaten on 69 off 54 balls including ten fours.

Left-arm spinner Damien Browne has three for 35 and pacer Dario Cumberbatch, two for 22.

At Queen’s Park: Following a late start by one hour due to grass being cleared from the outfield, Empire reached for 140 for six after winning the toss against defending champions Fusionz Boutique Spartan.

After the early loss of Jai-Bari Yarde, bowled by pacer Stefon King for seven, skipper Shian Brathwaite and Hakeem Perryman added 70 for the second wicket.

Left-hander Perryman’s dismissal for 43 led to a sudden slump during which four wickets fell for seven runs including Shian Brathwaite for 25.

Kofie Hurdle, unbeaten on 34 and wicket-keeper Kilano Brathwaite (14) put on 43 for the sixth wicket.

Left-arm spinner Andre Marshall has three for 58 off 20 overs.

At Beckles Road: Nicholas Kirton hit a solid half-century to help Sagicor Life UWI to 239 all out against Bayview Hospital YMPC.

Batting at No. 3, left-hander scored 75 in 143 minutes off 88 balls with six fours after UW won the toss.

Pacer Gary Austin was the leading wicket-taker with four for 40 off 10 overs.

YMPC were 10 without loss at stumps.
