Barbados beaten again as Jamaica grab title, CWI Under-19 one-day, Round 4, Results, Scores, POINTS
Kingstown, St. Vincent, July 10 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – It was another woeful showing by defending champions Barbados as they suffered a third straight defeat, this time to Leeward Islands by five wickets at Park Hill, while impressive Jamaica emerged as new champions with their fourth straight win in the penultimate round of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars men’s Under-19 one-day Championship today.
The Jamaicans defeated Windward Islands by eight wickets in the top-of-the-table clash at Sion Hill after going into the match on 15.4 points with Windward Islands on 12.4.
Barbados, who had mustered just 6.2 points for fourth place, were again let down by their batting, falling for 168 in 43.4 overs.
Joshua Dorne, the highly touted Foundation School student, top-scored with 68 off 115 balls including four boundaries at No. 3, following the early dismissals of Gadson Bowens (three) and Zion Brathwaite (five).
Nimar Bolden made 29 and captain and all-rounder Nathan Sealy (20).
Dorne and Bolden added 71 in 17 overs for the third wicket before the last seven wickets tumbled for 60 runs in 16.1 overs.
Tyanick Honore took three for 26 off six overs, Michael Greaves, two for 16 off 3.4 overs and Onaje Amory, two for 26 off 10 overs.
Greaves then hit an unbeaten 64 off 132 balls including six fours at No. 3.
Jewel Andrew contributed 31 off 42 deliveries with two fours and one six and Honore, 28 off 31 balls including one four and two sixes.
Leg-spinning all-rounder Isaiah Folkes took two for 30 off 10 overs.
As it stands, Barbados are now languishing one from the bottom of the six-team table on 6.8 points with Jamaica on 20.4.
