Greenidge hits maiden century as rookies Windward whip Foundation in BCA T20 Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados, May 7 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Spurred by a maiden century from captain Latrell Greenidge, rookies Windward walloped school team Foundation by 146 runs in recording the season’s highest total in the eighth and penultimate series of the BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup Championship today.

Batting at No. 3, the 21-year-old Greenidge scored 103 off 53 balls with seven fours and nine sixes in a total of 221 for four off 20 overs after Windward were sent in at Church Hill in Zone ‘A’.

Following the early dismissals of openers Tennyson Roach (0) and coach Jafari Toppin (7) – both to Akeem McCollin in the second and fourth overs – to leave the score 22 for two, Greenidge and Shakeem Blades added 127 in 11.5 overs.

And after Greenidge, a former student of Princess Margaret, was dismissed by left-arm spinner and skipper Nathan Sealy, Blades and Naje Bishop put on 64 off 26 balls.

Blades, a former Foundation schoolboy, made 62 not out off 42 balls including five fours and five sixes, while Bishop was run out for 33 off 16 balls with three fours and two sixes.

McCollin took two for 32 off four overs.

Foundation were bowled out for 75 in 15.2 overs with the top-score of 23 from Joshua Dorne at No. 3.

New ball bowler Matthew Alleyne took four for 12 off four overs, Akobi Crichlow-Byer, two for 19 and Johnathan Griffith, two for 20.

Greenidge’s century is the fourth for the season and second by a Windward player. Toppin made 152 against IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire at Friendship in Round 2.

Yvan Grant of ESA Field Pickwick scored 109 not out against Wanderers at Dayrells Road (Series 2) and Dwayne Smith hit 113 for Bayview Hospital YMPC off Wildey at SJPIT (Series 7).

Smith’s younger brother, Kemar Jabarry Smith, the YMPC captain and all-rounder, enjoyed a memorable day with the ball today as he grabbed a hat-trick in figures of four for 16 off four overs against IDL Walkers Sand Quarry Isolation Cavaliers, who lost by 53 runs at KMV Oval.

Chasing 157 for victory, the home team fell for 103 in 16.4 overs.

Khalil Herbert took five for 19 off four overs in YMPC’s 156 for nine after they recovered from 26 for four, thanks to a partnership of 87 between Raymond Kellman (56) and Jadan Jones (53).
