Grant, Jones, Archer shine in BCA T20 Cup – Averages

Bridgetown, Barbados, May 3 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Yvan Grant of ESA Field Pickwick amassed the most runs and Superb Blend Gladiola left-arm spinner Matthew Jones grabbed the most wickets following the league phase of the BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup Championship.

Grant had an aggregate of 250 from five innings including two not outs, at an average of 83.33. He hit three half-centuries – 52 not out versus Walkers Reserve Isolation Cavaliers at KMV Oval (Series 3); 80 not out versus Police at Foursquare Oval (Series 4) and 84 versus Wildey at Foursquare Oval (Series 5).

Jones took 15 wickets at 5.73 runs each with an economy rate of 4.30. In each of the last three rounds, he picked up four-wicket hauls – four for 27 versus UWI at Rices; four for 20 versus Empire at Bank Hall and four for 15 versus SigniaGlobe Financial Inc. BCA Youth at Rices.

Apart from Grant, two other batsmen made over 200 runs – Shaqkere Parris (UWI) 205 (Ave: 41.00) and Mario Albert (Police) 204 (Ave: 40.80).

Wildey’s Jofra Archer, the Barbados-born England fast bowler, who will be featuring in next month’s ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States of America, topped the batting averages with 161.00.

Archer was dismissed only once in four innings with scores of 16 versus Isolation Cavaliers at SJPIT (Series 2); 10 not out versus Fusionz Boutique Spartan at SJPIT (Series 3); 81 not out versus Wanderers at Dayrells Road (Series 4) and 54 not out versus Pickwick (Series 5).

Windward coach/player Jafari Toppin struck the only century (107 not out off 50 balls with six fours and eight sixes) against Serve to Save Security Lords in an 87-run win at Lowlands in the opening round. His average was 158.00.

Left-arm spinner Steve Pinder of IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire took 13 wickets (Ave: 8.07; Econ: 5.52) with a best haul of five for 11 against BDF at Friendship in Round 4.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, May 4 – Wildey vs Carlton at Friendship; Maple vs defending champions Gladiola at SJPIT.
