Gladiola register first win of season in BCA T20 Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados, April 30 – ( – Title holders BWU Gladiola registered their first win in the 2022 BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup, beating IDL Walkers Sand Quarry Isolation Cavaliers by 17 runs at KMV Oval in Series 3.


At KMV Oval: Inspired by a half-century from captain Javon Searles, Gladiola scored 137 for five after winning the toss.

Opener Searles made 51 off 50 balls including three fours and two sixes before he was third out in the 17th over with the score 101.

West Indies Under-19 team player Rivaldo Clarke scored 35 off 24 balls containing three sixes and one four.

Isolation Cavaliers were restricted to 120 for eight.

Captain Jamaine Bullen and Micah Thornhill each scored 22.

Fast bowler Miguel Cummins was the leading wicket-taker with three for 27 off four overs.

At Bank Hall: Empire defeated St. Catherine by 23 runs.

Empire made 114 for eight with Kofie Hurdle hitting the top score of 42 off 36 balls at No. 4.

Off-spinner Dwayne Skeete took three for eight off three overs.

St. Catherine fell for 91 in 18 overs.

Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican took three for 11 and pacer Jaden Edmund, three for 12 – both off three overs.

At 3Ws Oval: Sagicor Life UWI ‘A’ raced to a nine-wicket victory against Police.

After reeling on 35 for five by the ninth over, Police managed 106 for seven.

Mario Albert scored 53 off 40 balls including four sixes and one four at No. 5. He added 58 in 9.4 overs with captain Karran Bhola (19) for the sixth wicket.

Fast bowler Michail Powell grabbed four for 24 off four overs.

UWI ‘A’ were put on course for victory by Shaqkere Parris (32 off 26 balls with three fours) and Zachary

McCaskie, unbeaten on 41 off 32 deliveries containing three fours and two sixes in a first wicket stand of 59 off eight overs.

Demario Richards scored 26 not out.

At Harrison College ‘A’, Crumpton Street: Batting woes continued for Nicholls Baking Combermere as they lost to Signia Globe Financial Barbados Youth ‘A’ by five wickets.

Combermere were bowled out for 71 in 18 overs – their third total under 100. Gadson Bowens scored 21.

Barbados Youth ‘A’ reached the target in 14.3 overs.

Micah Greenidge took three for 17 off four overs.

At Foursquare Oval: Fortunes fluctuated as Wildey beat ESA Field Pickwick by seven runs.

Wildey made 102 for five with Shane Parris hitting 41 and Akeem Jordan 25 not out.

Off-spinner Joshua Burton took four for 11 off four overs.

Pickwick responded with 95 for seven after being 44 for six by the 12th over.

Tino Best scored 23 not out and Ajani Waterman (23) as they added 40 for the seventh wicket.


At Friendship: Sagicor Life UWI ‘B’ overcame IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire by six runs.

An attacking 67 off 36 balls with three fours and six sixes by Akeem Dewar helped UWI ‘B’ to 122 all out in 18.5 overs.

Christopher Best took three for 15 and fellow pacer Akeem Evelyn, three for 17.

Yorkshire made 116 for eight with Jamal Smith scoring 53 off 54 balls including seven fours and two sixes.

Fast bowler Johann Layne grabbed four for 23.

At Waterford ‘A’: Led by a half-century from Shamarh Brooks, Spartan beat Signia Globe Finanacial Barbados Youth ‘B’ by five wickets with three balls to spare.

Barbados Youth ‘B’ made 121 for seven with the topscore of 25 coming from Riveira Cottle.

Medium-pacer Jamar Nicholls took three for 14.

Brooks then scored 50 off 45 balls with two fours and three sixes at No. 3.

At Desmond Haynes Oval: Carlton beat Lords by six wickets.

Lords were dismissed for 76 in 18.3 overs with the top score of 23 by Xavier Roach.

Left-arm spinner Daniel Babb took three for nine off four overs.

Carlton triumphed in 15.3 overs.

At Church Hill: Bayview Hospital YMPC managed their first win, overcoming a spirited Foundation by 11 runs.

Set up by a first wicket partnership of 112 in 8.1 overs between captain Dwayne Smith and Raymond Kellman, YMPC amassed 198 for six.

Kellman made 68 off 27 balls with three fours and seven sixes and Smith 52 off 30 deliveries including seven fours and three sixes.

Leg-spinner Isaiah Folkes took three for 20 off four overs.

Foundation also had a brisk start as openers Shomari Davis and Jamario St. Hill put on 81 in 6.2 overs before ending on 187 for five.

Davis scored 57 off 29 balls with five fours and five sixes and St. Hill 35 off 16 balls containing five fours and one six.

Kevin Gittens took three for 17 off four overs.

At Trents: Wanderers defeated Maple by seven wickets.

Maple scored 122 for four. Opener Winston Worrell hit the top score of 40.

Leg-spinner Kymani Richardson took three for 27.

Wanderers romped to victory in 15.2 overs as Jonathan Drakes scored 43 off 21 balls and opener Shayne Moseley an unbeaten 33 off 37 deliveries.
