Five teams set for quarterfinals of BCA T20 Cup after Series 6

Bridgetown, Barbados, May 14 – – With three rounds of matches remaining, at least five teams – Empire, Sagicor Life UWI ‘A’ and Wildey in Zone ‘A’ and Carlton and Sagicor Life UWI ‘B’ in Zone ‘’B’ – are assured of advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2022 BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup Championship.

They all won in Series 6 with Empire, UWI ‘A’ and Carlton maintaining maximum points to move to 24, while Wildey and UWI ‘B’ are on 20.

Defending champions BWU Gladiola were condemned to a fifth defeat, losing to St. Catherine.

At KMV Oval: Wildey brushed aside IDL Walkers Sand Quarry Isolation Cavaliers by 10 wickets.

After the home team made 129 for nine, Wildey raced to the target in 12 overs.

Demetrius Richards scored 69 not out off 37 balls with eight fours while Craig St. Hill was unbeaten on 55 off 36 deliveries containing four fours and three sixes.

Jahbari Doughlin was the mainstay of the Isolation Cavaliers batting with 53 off 36 balls including seven fours and one six.

Left-arm spinner Steve Pinder took three for 23 and pacer Rey Matthews, three for 27.

At Foursquare Oval: Captain Craig Holder finally made his first runs of the season – an unbeaten half-century – to lead ESA Field Pickwick to a four-wicket win over SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth ‘A’.

Chasing 122, Pickwick triumphed with four balls to spare.

Holder, who had failed to score in three matches against St. Catherine, Wildey and Gladiola, scored 56 not out off 51 balls including six fours and one six.

Yvan Grant made 26 and Kyle Hope 20.

Barbados Youth ‘A’ scored 121 for seven with Christian Haynes hitting 33 and Joshua Haynes 26.

Pacer Raneil Smith took four for 12.

At Waterford ‘A’: Batting woes continued for Nicholls Baking Combermere as they lost by nine wickets to UWI ‘A’.

After winning the toss, Combermere fell for the season’s lowest total of 54 in 19 overs. They have failed to reach 100 in a match.

Off-spinner Romario Greaves was the main wrecker with three for nine.

UWI ‘A’ romped home in only 4.5 overs as Zachary McCaskie scored 29 not out and Odain McCatty 22.

At Weymouth: Empire maintained their unbeaten record with a 72-run win over Police.

Led by Kevin Stoute’s 74 off 52 balls including six fours and three sixes – his third half-century of the season – Empire made 172 for eight.

Left-arm spinner Karran Bhola took three for 28.

Police were bowled out for 100 in 18.4 overs with Larry Babb scoring 33.

At Rices: Darnel Greenidge starred with both bat and ball as Catherine beat Gladiola by 19 runs – the fifth defeat for thedefending champions.

Greenidge hit the top score of 54 off 26 balls including three threes and nine fours at No.5 in a total of 173 for four off 20 overs after St. Catherine were sent in.

Opener Neil Browne made 53 off 45 deliveries with seven threes and one four and captain Mikhail Austin 50 (37 balls, three threes, five fours).

Off-spinner Michael Agard Jr took three for 30.

Bowling left-arm pace. Greenidge then took four for 26 off four overs in a total of 154 for nine.

All-rounder Giovonte Depeiza scored 51 off 43 balls and fellow West Indies Under-19 player Rivaldo Clarke, 37.


At 3Ws Oval: UWI ‘B’ beat Bayview Hospital YMPC by 39 runs.

Led by an unbeaten 68 from captain Tahj Tavernier, UWI ‘B’ made 139 for nine.

Leg-spinner Mario Miller took three for 18.

YMPC were restricted to 100 for six with Raymond Kellman scoring 42 and Kevin Gittens 29.

At Lowlands: Lords upset Wanderers by seven wickets.

Wanderers were bowled out for 108 in 18.1 overs with opener Jason Greene hitting the topscore of 40 off 28 balls including five fours and one six.

Left-arm spinner Tremaine Dowrich took three for 19 after coming on as the last of five bowlers.

Lords triumphed in 15.2 overs as Leroy Johnson, who made 46 off 37 balls containing two fours and four sixes, dominating an opening stand of 57 in 8.4 overs with Shonquono Stanford, who was second out for 21 with the score 85 in the 12th overs.

At Trents: Inspired by half-centuries from Akeem Springer and Tauron Gibson, Spartan defeated Maple by 69 runs.

In a total of 178 for two off 20 overs, Springer made 54 off 48 balls with six threes and four fours, and Gibson scored an unbeaten 54 off 39 balls containing five threes and four fours.

Maple limped to 109 for six with Kareem Cozier scoring 46 off 42 balls and Renacko Belgrave 33 not out.

At Church Hill: Joshua Dorne slammed a splendid 96 for Foundation but IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire won by 18 runs.

Chasing 200 to win, Foundation scored 181 for eight.

Batting at No. 3, the 15-year-old Dorne hit 11 sixes and one four before he was dismissed by medium-pacer Akeem Evelyn with four balls left in the match.

Evelyn took four for 33.

Yorkshire made 199 for four after winning the toss.

Jamar Layne scored 73 off 49 balls including six fours and six sixes at No. 3. He put on 78 in 8.4 overs for the second wicket with Lamar Worrell, who made 63 off 39 deliveries containing six fours and five sixes.

Layne and Jamal Smith (26) added 78 as well for the third wicket in 8.1 overs.

At Desmond Haynes Oval: Carlton comfortably beat SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth ‘B’ by 83 runs.

Carlton made 149 for five with skipper Matthew Jones scoring 33 not out and Shamar Springer, an unbeaten 25.

Barbados Youth crawled to 66 for eight as Daniel Babb snatched three for 16.
