Empire capture BCA Elite division title

Bridgetown, Barbados, December 17 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Empire captured the 2023 BCA Elite division three-day Championship on the last day of the ninth and final series today after beating Bayview Hospital YMPC by nine wickets.

Set 96 for victory on home turf at Bank Hall, Empire triumphed shortly before tea.

It was Empire’s fifth win of the season as they ended on 106 points – two more than second-placed Wildey, the dethroned champions, who had to settle for a draw with IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire after rain wiped out play in the post-tea session at Friendship.

Starting the day on 54 for five in their second innings after being led on first innings by three runs, YMPC were bowled out for 98.

Seamer Shaquille Cumberbatch took four for 14 and left-arm spinner Camarie Boyce, three for 42.

Wildey quickly wrapped up the Yorkshire first innings without a run added from an overnight 157 for eight to gain a lead of 56.

Jerome Jones ended with six for 57.

Led by a knock of 60 from Nimar Bolden, Wildey declared their second innings on 124 for four, setting the home team 181 to win.

Yorkshire reached 19 without loss when rain swept across the ground before tea and prevented any further play.
