Dwayne Smith smashes century, Jordan grabs 5-11 in Series 2 of BCA T20 Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados, April 24 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Veteran Dwayne Smith of Bayview Hospital YMPC slammed the first century of the 2022 BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup and Wildey fast bowler Akeem Jordan picked up the first five-wicket haul in the second series.

Smith hit 124 not out against Wanderers at Beckles Road but his team lost by nine wickets, while Jordan snatched five for 11 as Wildey demolished Police by 124 runs at SJPI.

Title holders BWU Gladiola suffered another defeat – by five wickets against Sagicor Life UWI at Rices.


At Bank Hall: Empire skipper Justin Greaves hit a half-century in his team’s 30-run win against IDL Walkers Sand Quarry Isolation Cavaliers.

Sent in, Empire made 141 for six with opener Greaves scoring 60 off 49 balls including six threes and four fours.

Isolation Cavaliers were given a brisk start by D’Angelo Springer (26) and Kevin Greene (29) who added 65 off nine overs for the first wicket including 33 off the first three overs, but once they were parted the scoring rate declined and they were limited to 111 for six.

At Rices: Jonathan Carter stood out with both ball and bat to lead UWI ‘A’ to a five-wicket win over Gladiola with 3.4 overs remaining.

Gladiola were bowled out for 79 in 17.5 overs after winning the toss. Javon Searles topscored with 26 as Carter took three for 12 off three overs.

Carter then scored an unbeaten 31. He added 36 in 5.3 overs for the fifth wicket with Matthew Forde (20).

At Bayfield: St. Catherine easily defeated Signia Globe Financial Barbados Youth ‘A’ by eight wickets.

Barbados Youth ‘A’ made 112 for nine with Joshua Haynes scoring 48 off 31 balls containing two fours and three sixes.

Off-spinner Dwayne Skeete took three for 35.

Zidane Harewood then struck 61 not out off 58 balls including five fours and one six as the home side triumphed with 22 balls to spare.

At SJPI: Skipper Carlos Maynard and Akeem Jordan were the stars as enterprising Wildey beat Police by 124 runs.

Left-hander Maynard slammed 80 off only 39 balls with nine fours and three sixes in a total of 215 for seven. It was his second straight half-century.

Jerome Jones contributed 36 off 22 balls including three sixes and one four and Jordan 27 off 13 balls containing three fours and two sixes.

Police fell for 91 in 16.3 overs with Larry Babb lashing 42 off 24 balls including four sixes and one four.

Jordan snatched the first four wickets and ended with five for 11 off 3.3 overs.

At Waterford ‘A’: ESA Field Pickwick romped to a 10-wicket win against Nicholls Baking Combermere.

Combermere were limited to 94 for seven with Abayoni Wilson hitting the topscore of 22.

Left-arm spinner Ajani Waterman took four for six.

Pickwick took only nine overs to reach the target as Kyle Hope slammed an unbeaten 52 off 30 balls including four fours and one six, while Rohan Ryan made 39 not out.


At 3Ws Oval: Sagicor Life UWI ‘B’ defeated Signia Globe Financial Barbados Youth ‘B’ by seven wickets.

Barbados Youth ‘B’ made 101 for six with Micaiah Simmons hitting the topscore of 21.

Led by 45 from Vidal Crandon and captain Tahj Tavernier’s 29 not out, UWI ‘B’ triumphed with four overs to spare.

At Desmond Haynes Oval: Opener Rashawn Worrell struck a fine half-century for Carlton who beat IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire by 18 runs.

Worrell made 74 off 49 balls including eight fours and three sixes in a total of 158 for eight.

Leg-spinner Tariq Hoyte took three for 36.

Yorkshire were restricted to 140 for five.

Jamal Smith scored 36 not out.

At Queen’s Park: Spartan overcame a spirited showing by Foundation to win by four runs.

Chasing 148 for victory, Foundation scored 143 for eight after reaching 100 for three in 13th over.

Tyreque Nurse made 38, Jamario St. Hill (36) and Shomari Davis (26).

Pacer Stefon King took three for 30.

Marrodon Bend lashed 52 off 41 balls with three fours and five sixes – his second consecutive half-century – and Shamarh Brooks scored 41 in Spartan’s 147 for seven.

Nurse took three for 41.

At Lowlands: Spurred by spinners Kemar Stanford and Romalio Benn, who took a hat-trick, Lords defeated Maple by 55 runs.

Lords made 117 for nine with Jamali Lynch scoring 27 and Tremaine Dowrich (24).

Savion Maynard took three for 20.

Maple crumbled for 62 in 16.3 overs as left-armer Stanford snatched four for nine off four overs and off-spinner Benn, three for 15 off 2.3 overs.

At Beckles Road: After Dwayne Smith smashed a boundary-studded century for YMPC, Roshon Primus and Jonathan Drakes hit brisk, unbeaten half-centuries to propel Wanderers to a nine-wicket victory with 5.1 overs remaining.

Skipper Smith scored 124 not out off 74 balls containing 17 threes and 13 fours in a total of 167 for three.

After losing Shayne Moseley for nought off the second ball of the innings, Primus and Drakes then put on 167 off 14.3 overs in telling style.

Primus made 86 not out off 52 balls with eight threes and nine fours, while Drakes was unbeaten on 69 off 39 balls containing 10 threes and five fours.
