Sealy snatches six for 37, Brathwaite scores 51 again as Barbados dominate against T&T

Kingstown, St. Vincent, July 20 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Inspirational captain and left-arm spinning all-rounder Nathan Sealy snatched a six-wicket haul and attacking opener Zion Brathwaite struck a second straight half-century to put front-runners Barbados in a strong position against Trinidad & Tobago in the top-of-the-table clash on the opening day of Round 2 in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars men’s Under-19 three-day Championship today.

Again playing at Park Hill where they demolished Guyana by 80 runs earlier in the week to gain 24 points, Barbados dismissed second-placed Trinidad & Tobago, who went into the match on 19.6 points, for 165 in 52 overs in their first innings.

Barbados closed on 107 for one off 38 overs.

The wily Sealy, a Foundation School student, who continues to impress with ball and bat in both red-ball and white-ball competitions, took six for 37 off 16 overs after coming on as fifth of six bowlers. He has now rushed to 10 wickets at 11.50 runs each.

After winning the toss, Trinidad & Tobago seemed on course for a solid total when they reached 100 with only two wickets down.

But the dismissal of Andrew Rambaran, caught by wicketkeeper Joshua Morris off pacer Jaden Leacock for the top-score of 39 off 55 balls in 68 minutes with six fours and one six, triggered a collapse.

The last eight wickets tumbled for 65 runs in 27 overs as Sealy shone.

Rambaran added 48 for the third wicket with Rajeev Ramnath – the best partnership of the innings after Justin Jagessar fell for 35.

Ramnath contributed 31 before becoming the first of Sealy’s scalps, while wicketkeeper Kyle Ramdoo scored 23.

Brathwaite, who has been appointed the Barbados Under-17 captain for that regional age group Tournament in Trinidad next month, then dominated a first-wicket partnership of 69 in 23.1 overs with Achilles Browne.

Brathwaite, a Lodge School student and formerly of Queen’s College, scored 51 off 62 balls in 75 minutes with eight boundaries.

He also made 51 not out in the second innings against Guyana.

Browne was unbeaten on 22 off 113 balls in 108 minutes, partnered by star batsman Joshua Dorne on 31 off 53 deliveries in 53 minutes including five fours and one six.

Barbados made one change with seamer Jaden Lorde replacing off-spinner Saurav Worrell, who was his team’s most successful bowler in the preceding 50-over Competition with 10 scalps.

The Points going into this round were: Barbados 24, Trinidad & Tobago 19.6, Windward Islands 19, defending champions Leeward Islands 7.8, Guyana 6.6 and Jamaica 6.2.
