Dowrich hits unbeaten century in Barbados’ 294-8 against Leewards

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, March 15 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Barbados Pride captain Shane Dowrich hit a fine, unbeaten century to pull his team around from early problems against Leeward Islands Hurricanes on the opening day of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) third round first-class match at Queen’s Park Oval today.

The defending champions recovered from 57 for four to close on 294 for eight off 88 overs after winning the toss.

Dowrich played some excellent drives through the off side including three boundaries in one over, which cost 14 runs off left-arm fast bowler Colin Archibald as he moved to 29 in a score of 89 for four.

His half-century came off 65 balls with five fours and one six, and his century took 149 balls including nine fours and one six.

Off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall, who snapped up three of the first four wickets, has six for 50 off 24 overs.

He also featured in vital partnerships of 47 for the seventh wicket with Dominic Drakes (22) and 73 for the eighth wicket with Chaim Holder, who made a career-best 43 off 56 balls with five fours and one six.

Veteran left-hander Jonathan Carter, playing his first match of the season, failed to score. Driving, he was caught at second slip by Kieran Powell off pacer Sheeno Berridge.

Jonathan Drakes (22) fell in the first over after lunch to a leg-side catch by wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton off Cornwall.
