Bridgetown, Barbados, December 12– (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Edwin Currency-Barnett hammered an unbeaten double-century as Graydon Sealy Secondary School continued its dominance in the BCA Schools’ three-day championship.

After winning the toss and batting on the opening day of the ninth and final series against St. George Secondary School on home turf at Bayville on Saturday, the recently crowned champions occupied the crease all day for a record-breaking 399 for four from only 49 overs.

Currency-Barnett’s knock of 227 was decorated with 34 fours and nine sixes. Batting at No.3, the stocky right-hander reached his first hundred with a boundary to backward-point shortly after tea. He brought up the double-ton in grand style with his sixth six.

He shared an attacking third-wicket partnership of 236 with another right-hander Tyrek Boyce, who made 84, including eight fours and four sixes. The pair came together after openers Aazan Bennett and Joshua Husbands, both with hundreds this season, fell cheaply.

Sixteen–year-old Currency-Barnett, who represented the Barbados Under-15 team in the 2019 CWI regional tournament in Antigua, hit an undefeated 133 in the previous series in an innings and 70-run win over Nicholls Baking Combermere at the same venue.

It was Graydon Sealy’s seventh victory along with one drawn encounter against Queen’s College when they took first innings lead as rain forced a premature end on the final day. They began the final series with 59 points.

This was Currency-Barnett’s third match this season after he lost his place in SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth sides in the First and Elite division championships with a string of low scores.
