Corbin cracks century, hat-trick for Jones in BCA T20 Cup quarterfinals

Bridgetown, Barbados, May 28 – ( – Skipper Kyle Corbin cracked a century for Sagicor Life UWI ‘A’ and Carlton captain Matthew Jones snatched a hat-trick in the quarter-final matches of the 2022 BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup Championship.

Corbin’s even ton helped to set up a 74-run win against Spartan at 3Ws Oval, while left-arm spinner Jones took four for ten as Carlton beat ESA Field Pickwick by seven wickets at Desmond Haynes Oval.

It was Corbin’s third hundred in the Tournament. His others were scored in 2020.

Wildey defeated Sagicor Life UWI ‘B’ by 13 runs at SJPIT and IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire upset Empire by seven wickets at Bank Hall.

At 3Ws Oval: Kyle Corbin and Shaqkere Parris rescued UWI ‘A’ from a disastrous start with some fine strokes as they shared in a century partnership.

The pair added 127 in 13 overs for the fourth wicket after coming together with the score on six for three in the third over following Spartan’s luck of the toss.

Parris scored 63 off 43 balls including four sixes and one four.

Corbin made 100 off 52 balls containing three fours and nine sixes before falling with two balls left in the innings as UWI ‘A’ amassed 190 for five.

Left-arm pacer Davien Branker took two for 26 – both wickets coming in the second over of the match.

Spartan were restricted to 116 for six.

Marrodon Bend made 60 off 54 balls including four fours and four sixes.

Left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop took two for 18 and pacer Jediah Blades, two for 29.

At SJPIT: Wildey withstood the challenge of UWI ‘B’ to triumph by 13 runs.

Led by Shane Parris’ unbeaten 59 off 44 balls including seven fours, Wildey scored 169 for four after they were sent in.

Craig St. Hill made 31 and fellow opener Demetrius Richards 27.

Pacer McKenny Clarke picked up two for 24.

UWI ‘B’ responded with 156 for four.

Veteran Floyd Reifer scored 50 not out off 30 balls containing three fours and three sixes.

David Carter contributed 44.

Pacer Latrell Callender took three for 23.

At Desmond Haynes Oval: Captain and left-arm spinner Matthew Jones snatched four wickets in one over including a hat-trick and opener Rashawn Worrell scored an unbeaten half-century as Carlton cruised to a seven-wicket win over Pickwick.

Sent in, Pickwick collapsed from 58 from one in the seventh over to 115 all out in 18.1 overs.

Opener Jamal Phillips scored 36 off 25 balls including four fours and two sixes and Ajani Waterman 27.

All of Jones’ victims were leg before wicket in his second over – the 10th of the innings. He accounted for his opposite number Craig Holder, Tino Best, Raneil Smith and brother Reneico Smith off the first, third, fourth and fifth balls.

In fact, five wickets fell with the score on 65, as Phillips was bowled by medium-pacer Zidane Clarke off the fifth ball of the ninth over.

All told, six batters were leg before wicket.

Clarke took three for 20.

Worrell then scored 59 not out off 43 balls containing four fours and four sixes as Carlton triumphed with 35 balls to spare.

At Bank Hall: All-rounder Ravendra Persaud made his presence felt with both ball and bat as Yorkshire beat Empire by seven wickets.

After winning the toss, Empire made 132 for four with Thierry Walcott scoring 36 not out off 22 balls at No. 6.

Jai-Bari Yarde contributed 25, Kevin Stoute (23) and captain Kofie Hurdle (22 not out).

Persaud took three for seven off four overs.

Yorkhire won with 16 balls to spare.

Opener Lamar Worrell scored 33, Jamar Layne (26 not out) and Persaud was unbeaten on 21 off ten balls.
