Champions Gladiola lose to Wildey in Series 1 of BCA T20 Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados, April 23 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Defending champions BWU Gladiola lost by 20 runs to Wildey in the opening round of the 2022 BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup Championship.

ZONE A

At SJPI: In a match, which produced the most runs (360) of the series, Wildey scored 190 for six after they were sent in.

Captain Carlos Maynard led the way with an unbeaten 64 off only 25 balls including four fours and five sixes.

Gladiola responded with 170 for eight as Kodi Phillips contributed 46 and Martin Nurse 45.

Left-arm spinner Steve Pinder was the leading wicket-taker with three for 22.

At KMV Oval: A four-wicket haul from medium-pace all-rounder Matthew Forde helped Sagicor Life UWI ‘A’ to an 11-run win against IDL Walkers Sand Quarry Isolation Cavaliers.

Chasing 122 for victory, Isolation Cavaliers were restricted to 110 for seven.

Captain Jamaine Bullen scored 53 off 47 balls with five fours.

Forde took four for 12.

UWI ‘A’ made 121 for seven, led by 42 from Jonathan Carter.

At Harrison College ‘A’, Crumpton Street: Empire brushed aside Signia Globe Financial Barbados Youth ‘A’ by 86 runs.

Inspired by Kevin Stoute’s 53 off 41 balls with eight fours and two sixes and 42 from Justin Greaves, Empire scored 141 for four.

Barbados Youth ‘A’ tumbled for 55 in 16.2 overs.

Off-spinner Thierry Walcott grabbed three for 16.

At Waterford ‘A’: Police rolled over Nicholls Baking Combermere by seven wickets with as many as 9.3 overs to spare.

Set 78 to win after Combermere laboured to 77 for seven with Jaden Leacock scoring 27 not out, Police were led to victory by Mario Albert’s 49 off 33 balls including four fours and two sixes.

At Foursquare Oval: Positive ESA Field Pickwick defeated St. Catherine by 23 runs.

Set up by a second wicket partnership of 82 in 13.3 overs between Rohan Ryan (43) and Yvan Grant (38) and boosted by a brisk 25 off 14 balls from all-rounder Jared Gilkes, Pickwick scored 139 for five.

Off-spinner Dwayne Skeete took three for 28.

St. Catherine were under early pressure at 42 for five by the ninth over before they were bowled out for 116 in 19.4 overs.

Orion Seale scored 31 not out.

Pacer Raneico Smith took three for 11.

ZONE B

At 3Ws Oval: Carlton demolished Sagicor Life UWI ‘B’ by eight wickets.

Daniel Babb, with four for four and fellow left-arm spinner Matthew Jones (3-12) undermined the home team who could only manage 71 in 14.5 overs.

Leniko Boucher then scored an unbeaten 35 as the target was achieved in 11.1 overs.

At Church Hill: Off-spinner Joshua Jones took three for 20 in helping Foundation to a 27-run win over Signia Globe Financial Barbados Youth ‘B’.

Chasing 151 for victory, Barbados Youth ‘B’ made 123 for eight with Zachary Carter scoring 36.

Foundation were bowled out for 150 in 19.4 overs.

Joshua Dorne hit the topscore of 30.

Shaquan Belle took three for 22 and fellow pacer Jaden Lorde, three for 36.

At Friendship: IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire beat Maple by 24 runs.

Yorkshire made 153 for four, led by an unbeaten 41 off 27 balls from Jamal Smith.

Despite Stephen Payne’s attacking 77 off 44 balls with five fours and six sixes, Maple were limited to 129 for eight.

At Dayrells Road: Wanderers easily defeated Spartan by 94 runs.

The home side amassed 224 for six with Tevyn Walcott lashing 56 off 25 balls including six fours and three sixes.

Spartan responded with 130 for eight.

Marrodon Bend made 59 not out off 38 balls containing four fours and four sixes.

Fast bowler Jair McAllister snatched four for 25.

At Beckles Road: Lords upset Bayview Hospital YMPC by 20 runs.

The St. Lucy team scored 115 for eight with Romalio Benn hitting the topscore of 22 not out.

Leg-spinner Mario Miller took three for 21.

YMPC were dismissed for 95 in 18.1 overs.

Raymond Kellman made 43.

Medium-pacer Xavier Roach was the chief wrecker with four for 13.
