Centuries for Primus and Persaud in Round 5 of BCA T20 Cup
Bridgetown, Barbados, May 7 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Unbeaten centuries by opposing batters Roshon Primus of Wanderers and IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire’s Ravendra Persaud highlighted Series 5 of the 2022 BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup.
In a Zone ‘B’ match, which produced over 400 runs at Friendship, Yorkshire won by four wickets off the very last ball.
Opener Primus scored 132 not out off 75 balls with 14 fours and seven sixes in a total of 205 for five off 20 overs after Wanderers won the toss.
He featured in a sixth wicket partnership of 88 in 6.1 overs with Ian Boyce (22 not out).
Yorkshire were under some pressure on 49 for three in the ninth over before Persaud, who went to the crease at No. 5, revived their hopes by sharing in stands of 55 in four overs for the fourth wicket with Jamal Smith, who made 33, and 80 off 31 balls for the fifth wicket with his younger brother Indal Persaud (11).
Jamar Layne scored 25 at No. 3.
With two runs needed off the last ball from medium-pacer Primus, Ravendra Persaud struck a boundary. He scored 119 not out off 43 balls including 11 fours and ten sixes.
ZONE A
At Weymouth: Leg-spinner Shaquon Glasgow snatched four for 17 off 3.2 overs as IDL Walkers Sand Quarry Isolation Cavaliers recorded their first win – by 53 runs against Police.
Requiring 128 for victory, Police were bowled out for 74 in 15.2 overs.
Glasgow capitalised on early problems for the home team caused by pacer and captain Jamaine Bullen (2-17) and off-spinner Micah Thornhill (2-15), leaving them on 17 for four by the fourth over. Medium-pacer Khalil Herbert picked up two for 10.
Sent in, Isolation Cavaliers made 127 for three with Bullen hitting the top score of 42, while Herbert contributed 30 and fellow opener Kevin Greene (25).
At Bayfield: St. Catherine brushed aside Nicholls Baking Combermere by eight wickets.
Combermere, now the only team to lose all of their matches, struggled to 86 for nine with Saurav Worrell scoring 27 not out.
Medium-pacer Ulric Batson took three for nine.
Opener Neil Browne (33 not out) and captain Mikhail Austin (31 not out) put on 57 in six overs in an unbroken partnership as St. Catherine reached their target in 9.5 overs.
At Rices: Guided by a first wicket partnership of 88 in 8.1 overs between the Hope brothers, Shai and Kyle, ESA Field Pickwick defeated title holders BWU Gladiola by four wickets.
In pursuit of 162, Pickwick triumphed with three balls remaining.
Shai Hope scored 44 off 26 balls and Kyle 36 off 25 deliveries.
Yvan Grant made 31 not out off 28 balls at No. 3.
Pacer Korie Miller took three for 42.
Gladiola recovered from seven for two in the second over to score 161 for four.
Rivaldo Clarke, a West Indies Under-19 team player, made an unbeaten 78 off 64 balls at No. 4, while opener Cyprian Payne got 40. The pair put on 84 in 11.3 overs for the third wicket.
At SJPI: Commanding, unbeaten half-centuries by captain Justin Greaves and Kevin Stoute carried Empire to a convincing ten-wicket win over Wildey in a top-of-the-table clash.
Greaves scored 74 not out off 36 balls with nine fours and three sixes, while Stoute made an unbeaten 66, also off 36 deliveries containing eight fours and three sixes as Empire reached their target of 144 in 12 overs.
Wildey scored 143 for six with the main contributions coming from Akeem Jordan (46 off 27 balls) and Shane Parris (44 off 34 balls).
At 3Ws Oval: Sagicor Life UWI ‘A’ easily beat SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth ‘A’ by 89 runs.
Led by 77 off 52 balls including five fours and three sixes by opener Zachary McCaskie, UWI ‘A’ made 182 for six.
Kyle Corbin scored 42 off 19 balls.
Barbados Youth ‘A’ struggled to 93 for seven with the top score of 38 by Jayden Roberts.
Left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop took three for 12.
ZONE B
At Lowlands: Medium-pacer Xavier Roach grabbed a five-wicket haul for Lords but the home side lost by 25 runs to Sagicor Life UWI ‘B’.
UWI ‘B’ were bowled out for 139 in 19.3 overs with Simeon Gerson hitting the top score of 26.
Roach took five for 16 and Romalio Benn, three for 30.
Lords scored 114 for eight. Brandon Thompson got 32 not out.
Johnnel Eugene took three for 14 and Kalvin Marcus, three for 15.
At Queen’s Park: Bayview Hospital YMPC collapsed sensationally to lose by 38 runs to Spartan.
Needing 122 to win, YMPC fell for 83 in 16.4 overs after losing their first wicket on 36 in only 2.2 overs.
Captain and opener Dwayne Smith scored 30 off 13 balls with four sixes and one four.
Debutant left-arm spinner Alejandro Davis took three for 13 off four overs after coming on as the fifth of six bowlers.
In Spartan’s 121 for seven, Shamarh Brooks scored 32.
At Harrison College ‘A’, Crumpton Street: SigniaGlobe Financial Barbados Youth ‘B’ managed their first win – by seven wickets against Maple.
Maple scored 118 for five with opener Winston Worrell making 43 off 39 balls containing three fours and one six.
Barbados Youth ‘B’ triumphed with five balls to spare as skipper and opener Zion Brathwaite hit an unbeaten 48 off 47 balls containing three fours and one six.
Brathwaite and Reveira Cottle (26 not out off 21 balls) added 53 in 6.4 overs.
At Desmond Haynes Oval: Rashawn Worrell and Leniko Boucher struck half-centuries to set up an easy win by 76 runs for front-runners Carlton against Foundation.
The pair put on 141 off 17.2 overs in a total of 169 for two.
Worrell made 76 off 61 balls with 11 fours and one six and Boucher 65 not out off 55 balls including three fours and three sixes.
Foundation were bowled out for 93 in 17.2 overs.
Left-arm spinner Matthew Jones took three for 13 off three overs.
