Bowens hits first century in Barbados Under-15 trials, Report, Scores

Bridgetown, Barbados, February 18 – ( – Captain Gadson Bowens hit the first century of the Barbados Under-15 trials to set up a win by 22 runs over Raphael Lovell X1.

Playing at Briar Hall in Round 3 today, left-hander Bowens scored 106 before retiring in a total of 254 for six off 45 overs after losing the toss.

Bowens, a student of Graydon Sealy Secondary, faced 110 balls and struck 13 fours and one six. He added 129 in 22 overs for the first wicket with Thomas Armstrong, who scored 49 off 70 balls including seven fours.

Bowens retired with the score 231 for four after 41 overs.

Jakeem Pollard made 35 off 37 balls at No. 6.

Leg-spinner Caleb Haynes took two for 20 off five overs and fast bowler Nathan Osbourne, two for 51 off seven overs.

Lovell’s X1 were bowled out for 232 in 38.1 overs with left-hander Lovell hitting the top-score of 81 off 74 balls including nine fours and two sixes at No. 4.

Lovell and Rajeev Parsoraam (45) put on 112 in 18.2 overs for the fourth wicket.

Medium-pacer Jahidi Hinds was the leading wicket-taker with three for 40 off nine overs. Off-spinner Antoine Darlington took two for 35 off nine overs and leg-spinner Ondre Beckles, two for 45 off seven overs.

The vice-captain of the champion Barbados Under-15 team in last year’s regional Tournament in Grenada, Bowens has been in rich form with the bat of late.

He has scored a record three consecutive hundreds in boasting of the highest overall aggregate of 561 runs (Ave: 140.75) for Franklyn Stephenson Aces in the current Community Cricket League (CCL) Under-16, 35-over competition.

In the other Barbados Under-15 trial match today at Brighton, Akobi Crichlow-Byer and Justin Parris produced good all-round performances as Damarko Wiggins X1 beat Shem Sargeant X1 by 52 runs.

Wiggins X1 made 227 all out off 43 overs with opener Seth Smith hitting the top-score of 44 off 54 balls including eight fours. Parris scored 35 at No. 5.

Crichlow-Byer took three for 29 off seven overs, fellow off-spinner Liam Sealy, three for 38 off six overs and medium-pacer Joshua Babb, two for 27 off four overs.

Sargeant X1 were bowled out for 175 in 39.5 overs.

Sargeant scored 38 off 53 balls with six fours and Crichlow-Byer 36 off 28 balls as he counted five boundaries.

Crichlow-Byer and Rakhio Paul (27 not out) added 61 in 14 overs for the ninth wicket.

Fast bowler Kristian Burgess took three for 27 off six overs, off-spinner Ian Boyce, two for 17 and leg-spinner Parris, two for 25 – both off six overs.
