Barbadian Greaves sparks with 95 not out as Leewards beat Barbados by 4 wickets – CWI CG United Super50 Cup

Tarouba, Trinidad, November 2 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Barbadian all-rounder Justin Greaves sustained his fine form with an unbeaten 95 in piloting Leeward Islands Hurricanes to a crucial four-wicket win (DLS method) against Barbados Pride in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) CG United Super50 Cup Championship today.

In the rain-hit Day/Night match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Player Of The Match Greaves, now boasting of the most runs in the eight-team tournament, batted intelligently as the Leeward Islands, set a revised 192 in 42 overs, triumphed with 11 balls to spare.

The 29-year-old Greaves, who represents the famous Empire Club in Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) competitions, faced 120 balls and struck nine fours and one six. He has 328 runs including one century and two half-centuries at an average of 109.33, and is the only batsman with over 300 runs and an average of more than 100 after six matches.

Greaves added 65 in 15.1 overs for the fourth wicket with all-rounder Terrence Warde, who scored 22.

Hayden Walsh Jr made a telling 21 not out off nine balls in an unbroken stand of 28 off 20 deliveries.

Off-spinner Roston Chase took four for 34 off nine overs with three of his victims including 16-year-old debutant Jewel Andrew (five) being caught by Roshon Primus, who held four catches.

Sent in, Barbados were bowled out for 196 in 41.2 overs.

Captain Shai Hope hit the top-score of 55 off 76 balls with four fours and one six at No.4. It was his second half-century of the tournament.

All-rounder Primus contributed 28 off 30 balls with four boundaries.

Leeward Islands captain and West Indies fast bowler, Alzarri Joseph, who prised out his Test skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (2) and fellow international Shamarh Brooks (5) in an impressive new-ball burst, finished with three for 34 off nine overs.

Leg-spinner Walsh picked up three for 43 off eight overs and Jamaican pacer Oshane Thomas, two for 35 off eight overs.
