Worrell hits unbeaten ton, half-centuries for McCaskie and Drakes as Legends series opens
Bridgetown, Barbados, January 12 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Rashawn Worrell hit an unbeaten century and there were half-centuries for Zachary McCaskie and Jonathan Drakes as Sir Garfield Sobers X1 reached 317 for one off 79 overs against Sir Gordon Greenidge X1 on the first day of the opening three-day match in the Barbados Legends series at Kensington Oval today.
Uncapped left-hander Worrell scored 138 not out, Drakes was 83 not out and McCaskie made 76 after Shai Hope won the toss.
Worrell, one of four batsmen to score over 500 runs in last season’s Elite division three-day Championship – he made exactly 500 (Ave: 45.45) including two centuries for Carlton – added 150 in 43.1 overs with McCaskie, who played for Barbados Pride in the last two regional 50-over Tournaments.
McCaskie, a former Wildey player who now represents Sagicor Life UWI, fell to fast bowler Jair McAllister. He faced 123 balls and struck 11 fours in a three-hour knock.
Worrell has batted for 328 minutes, received 249 balls and counted 20 fours and one six, while Drakes, a Wanderers player who turned out for Combined Campuses & Colleges in last year’s regional one-day Competition, faced 107 balls in 148 minutes, striking 13 fours.
Nine bowlers have been used.
Barbados Pride, with a record 24 first-class titles including the last two, are preparing for the regional four-day Championship, which starts February 1.
