Sealy snares match haul 10-65, Dorne scores 91 as Barbados crush T&T by an innings and 9 runs

Kingstown, St. Vincent, July 21 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Captain Nathan Sealy completed a 10-wicket match haul and Joshua Dorne missed a century by nine runs as brutal Barbados brushed aside Trinidad & Tobago by an innings and nine runs late on the second day of Round 2 in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars men’s Under-19 three-day Championship today.

In another pulsating performance at Park Hill – the Barbadians beat Guyana by 80 runs at the same venue in the first round – a hunger to atone for their disappointing showing in the preceding 50-over Tournament where they finished second last after going in as the title holders was again evident.

Starting the day on 107 for one off 38 overs in reply to a first innings total of 165, Barbados were bowled out for 284 in 90.3 overs.

Dorne, easily Barbados’ most outstanding batsman, hit the top-score of 91 after resuming on 31, while Achilles Browne, who was on 22, scored a solid 51 following an attacking 51 as well by Zion Brathwaite on the opening day.

Facing a deficit of 119, Trinidad & Tobago lost wickets steadily in their second innings and were dismissed for 110 in 41.4 overs.

Wicketkeeper Kyle Ramdoo top-scored with 27 at No. 5 and Andrew Rambaran made 25.

Fast bowler Raneico Smith, a Lodge School student and formerly of Foundation, grabbed four for 25 off 7.4 overs, while left-arm spinner Sealy, who is also the Foundation captain, took four for 28 off 15 overs for a match haul of 10 for 65 off 31 overs.

Sealy now has 14 wickets at an average of 10.21 in the Tournament.

Earlier, Browne and Dorne took their overnight partnership of 38 to 109 in 38 overs before Browne, a former Alleyne School student, was dismissed by skipper Joshua Davis.

Browne faced 174 balls in three hours, hitting three boundaries.

At lunch, Barbados were 187 for two off 64 overs with Dorne on 71 off 136 balls including eight fours and one six and Nimar Bolden on seven.

Left-hander Bolden scored 22 off 24 balls in a stand of 39 before he was removed by Nick Ramlal, who also accounted for wicketkeeper Joshua Morris (10).

Dorne, another product of Foundation School, seemed well set for a well-deserved century before he was bowled by Davis in the over following Morris’ dismissal. He faced 168 balls in 159 minutes and struck nine fours and one six.

It was Dorne’s fourth half-century in his last five innings across formats. He made 190 runs (Ave: 38.00) in the 50-over Competition, and now has 188 runs (Ave: 62.66) in the red-ball Tournament.

Sealy, who bats right-handed, again showed his enterprising all-round ability by scoring 34 off 45 balls in 29 minutes with three fours and one six.

Barbados lost their last five wickets for 13 runs in 9.1 overs.

Rambaran took two for 19, Ronillster Perreira, two for 30; Ramlal, two for 48 and Davis, two for 50.

Trinidad & Tobago won their opening match against Jamaica by five wickets.

Barbados’ last Group match is against defending champions Leeward Islands at Arnos Vale, starting Tuesday, as the teams jostle for positions before contesting the final round, July 30-August 1.

In that decisive round, the line-up shows: 1st Group A v 1st Group B; 2nd Group A v 2nd Group B; 3rd Group A v 3rd Group B.
