Nathan Sealy: hit the top-score of 35

Sealy leads by example as Barbados defeat T&T by 37 runs, CWI Under-19 one-day, Round 1

Kingstown, St. Vincent, July 4 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Inspired by a purposeful eighth-wicket half-century partnership between captain Nathan Sealy and fellow spinning all-rounder and Foundation schoolmate Isaiah Folkes, defending champions Barbados defeated Trinidad & Tobago by 37 runs in a rain-shortened opening round of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Under-19 one-day Championship at Sion Hill today.

With the score at a shaky 76 for seven in the 22nd over after Barbados were sent in and the match reduced to a 39-over due to wet conditions, Folkes, the Foundation School Upper Sixth student and headboy, joined Sealy.

The pair, both hailing from the southern parish of Christ Church, exhibited level heads en route to adding 51 off 13.1 overs before Sealy, who went to the crease at No. 6, was caught by wicketkeeper Kyle Ramdoo off captain Joshua Davis for the top-score of 35 off 56 balls including one six.

Folkes was unbeaten on 25 off 43 deliveries including two fours as Barbados were bowled out for 152 off 39 overs.

Another Foundation student, the elegant Joshua Dorne, contributed 24 off 53 balls including two boundaries at No. 3.

The other double-figure contributors were fast bowler Raneico Smith (15) at No. 10 and last year’s captain, left-hander Nimar Bolden (12).

Andrew Rambaran took three for 20 off eight overs, new ball bowler Jacen Agard, three for 41 off seven overs and Davis, two for 32 off seven overs.

Trinidad & Tobago were under early pressure on six for two by the fourth over as Smith took both wickets in successive overs before they were bowled out for 115 in 34 overs.

Rajeev Ramnath hit the top-score of 35 off 75 balls with three boundaries at No. 4.

Smith, a student at The Lodge School, was impressive in grabbing four for 24, while medium-pacer Dre Springer of St. Leonard’s, took three for 36 – both off five overs.

Sealy was very mean with his left-arm spin, taking one for eight off eight overs and leg-spinner Folkes also supported, picking up one for 18 off eight overs.

Barbados’ second match is against Windward Islands, again at Sion Hill, on Thursday.
