Folkes, Sealy spin Barbados to 80-run win against Guyana CWI Under-19 3-day Championship, Round 1

Kingstown, St. Vincent, July 17 – (www.barbadoscricket.org) – Spin “twins” and schoolmates Nathan Sealy and Isaiah Folkes shared seven second innings wickets to spur Barbados to an emphatic 80-run win over Guyana on the third and final day of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars men’s Under-19 Round 1 match at Park Hill today.

In an enterprising display, which was set up by quick scoring in the first session, captain Sealy and fellow all-rounder Folkes eventually took over as Guyana, set 272 to win, were bowled out for 191 off 54.4 overs shortly after tea.

Leg-spinner Folkes was the main wrecker with four for 66 off 13.4 overs as he ended with match figures of six for 71 off 18.4 overs.

His Foundation School buddy, left-armer Sealy, took three for 46 off 19 overs.

Pace bowling al-rounder Jaden Leacock picked up two for 22 off six overs.

The main resistance came from No. 6 Zeynul Ramsammy, who scored 76 off 116 balls in 145 minutes with 11 fours and one six before he was last out, leg before wicket by Folkes.

Ramsammy and Zachary Jodah had prolonged the inevitable by adding 76 in 21 overs for the last wicket.

Jodah made 13 not out off 54 deliveries in 71 minutes.

Earlier, from an overnight 29 for one off four overs in their second innings, Barbados raced to 152 for four declared off 21.5 overs.

Zion Brathwaite of The Lodge School and formerly Queen’s College, hit the top-score of 51 not out off 61 balls with five fours and one six after starting the day on six.

The in-form Joshua Dorne, who resumed on seven, lashed 41 off 35 balls including six fours and one six and wicketkeeper Joshua Morris contributed 37 off 25 balls with two fours and three sixes.

Brathwaite ad Dorne added 82 in 11.4 overs for the second wicket, while Brathwaite and Morris put on 52 in 7.5 overs for the third wicket.

Jeremey Sandia took two for six off five balls and Aryan Persaud, two for 47 off 10 overs.

In the other matches, Windward Islands beat defending champions Leeward Islands by one wicket at Arnos Vale and Trinidad & Tobago defeated Jamaica by five wickets at Sion Hill.

Barbados’ next match is against Trinidad & Tobago, again at Park Hill, starting on Thursday.
